A Baker’s Dozen

Ceramics 2
Class of 2025
Last year for my ceramics one spring art show I created over 50 pieces of art that were mostly focused on creation. This year I wanted to refine my throwing skills and make a more cohesive collection showing my growth since last year. Over the summer I watched a very large amount of one of my favorite potters, Florian Gadsby’s, YouTube channel and became inspired to create simple, delicate, angular forms.
Each form was thrown and trimmed on the wheel. I used a black glaze on the inside to both contrast the exterior as well as keep the simplistic theme going. The glaze on the outside was supposed to be a white crackle glaze to add some simple texture to the outside. However, the crackle did not work. I am not too disappointed for two reasons. The first being that it is a reminder that in ceramics you will not have things work out all the time and that is okay because it is part of the ceramics process. The other reason is because I still have a lot of time to grow my ceramics skills before my senior year. I will continue to improve my skills both at school as well as at my home studio, which I was recently able to create after fixing a broken wheel from school that was going to be thrown out. Until the next art show you can follow my ceramics journey on instagram, @baker_ceramics

In the fall semester I made a few sets because pots always look two times as good as sets.
another technique that I experimented with is underglaze trailing.
